Chapter 7
The Perilous Journey
The lovers embark on a challenging journey, facing dangers and uncertainties. They must outwit pursuers and find a safe haven where their love can truly flourish.
The moon, a sliver of bone against the inky canvas of the night, offered little solace as Sir Kaelen and Princess Aurelia urged their horses onward. The rhythmic thud of hooves on the soft earth was a frantic heartbeat, a constant reminder of the life they had left behind and the uncertain future that stretched before them. Every rustle of leaves, every distant hoot of an owl, sent a jolt of adrenaline through Kaelen, his hand instinctively tightening on the reins, his eyes scanning the shadows that clung to the ancient trees lining the path. She hadn't spoken much since they’d slipped away from the castle’s sleeping walls, her silence a testament to the enormity of their decision. But Kaelen felt her presence beside him, a warmth that seeped into his very bones, a silent strength that bolstered his own.
“Are you cold, my lady?” he finally ventured, his voice a low rumble, careful not to break the fragile peace of the night.
