The killer escalates his efforts to erase Liora's true identity. Liora and Tina must find the artifact before Liora's sense of self is permanently lost.
The air in the hidden study crackled with a desperate urgency, a stark contrast to the polished tranquility of the adoptive parents’ mansion. Dust motes danced in the slivers of moonlight that pierced the grimy windowpanes, illuminating stacks of forgotten tomes and the faint, metallic tang of old secrets. Liora, her heart thrumming a frantic rhythm against her ribs, traced the intricate carvings on a heavy oak desk, her fingers brushing against a cold, smooth surface. Beside her, Tina, her usually vibrant eyes clouded with a shared anxiety, meticulously examined a brittle, yellowed map spread across a worn rug.
"Are you sure this is it, Liora?" Tina’s voice was a low murmur, barely disturbing the heavy silence. "The ‘Repository of Vanished Whispers’… it sounds more like a forgotten attic than a place holding the key to your past."
Liora nodded, her gaze fixed on a faint, almost imperceptible symbol etched into the wood of the desk – a coiled serpent swallowing its own tail. It mirrored a miniature pendant she’d found tucked away in her mother’s locket, a detail she’d initially dismissed as a mere trinket. Now, it felt like a beacon. "The inscription Grandmother Elara mentioned… it spoke of a place where memories were stored, not just traded. A place guarded by the very essence of their creation." She shivered, a prickle of fear mingling with a fierce resolve. "And it said only those who carried a lost echo could find it."
