“Yo, Tobie!” Leo’s voice, boisterous and familiar, cut through the din. He clapped Tobie on the shoulder, a friendly, solid weight. Leo was a whirlwind of energy, perpetually surrounded by a small, orbiting constellation of friends, his laughter echoing down the corridor. He was the embodiment of most of the things Tobie was *supposed* to be thinking about: weekend parties, upcoming games, the latest gossip.
“Hey, Leo,” Tobie replied, managing a smile that felt a little thinner than usual. He tried to match Leo’s easygoing energy, but a part of him was already drifting, cataloging the way Leo’s brow furrowed when he was excited, the slight tilt of his head when he was listening. He wondered if Jamie did that.
