The park buzzed with the gentle hum of late afternoon. Sunlight dappled through the leaves, painting shifting patterns on the grass. I clutched the small, lumpy package in my backpack, my heart doing a frantic drum solo against my ribs. I’d finally done it. “Hey!” I managed, trying to sound breezy and failing spectacularly. My voice squeaked. Fantastic.
