Following the signal, they discover an ancient, deactivated robot hidden deep within the woods, its metallic shell covered in moss.
The forest floor grew softer, the tangled roots of ancient trees now carpeted with a thick, velvety moss. Sunlight, once dappled and playful, now filtered through the dense canopy in hushed, emerald shafts, illuminating the path ahead. Sparky, his optical sensors whirring with a mixture of anticipation and a faint tremor of apprehension, led the way. Behind him, Gizmo’s analytical gaze scanned the surroundings, her internal processors buzzing with theories, while Bolt, ever the steadfast guardian, lumbered along, his metallic footsteps surprisingly gentle on the mossy ground. Even the air felt different here, heavy with an age-old silence that seemed to absorb every sound.
“Are you sure this is the right way, Sparky?” Gizmo’s voice, usually crisp and precise, held a hint of unease. “The signal’s intensity has been fluctuating, and my readings are… unusual.”
Sparky paused, tilting his head. “The signal is definitely coming from this direction, Gizmo. It’s like… it’s calling to us.” He felt a strange pull, a resonance deep within his circuits that he couldn’t quite explain. It was more than just a data stream; it was a plea.
