The jungle, usually a symphony of chirps, rustles, and the occasional boisterous roar, had fallen into a hushed stillness. Tiggy padded through the dappled sunlight, his paws sinking softly into the mossy earth. Every rustle of a leaf, every distant chirp, seemed to echo in the unusual quiet. He’d expected to hear the chattering of his monkey friends, the squawks of his parrot pals, or the trumpeting call of his elephant friend. But there was only silence, a deep, pervasive silence that felt a little bit… empty. He missed the boisterous games, the playful chases, the sheer joyful noise of his friends. Now, his tummy rumbled with a different kind of emptiness, a hollow ache of loneliness. He’d tried to find them, calling out their names, but each time, he was met with only the soft sigh of the wind through the leaves.

He rounded a giant fern, his striped tail drooping. He was so tired. His eyelids felt heavy, like two little tigers trying to wrestle their way shut. But he didn’t want to nap. Napping was for sleepy creatures, not for energetic tiger cubs like him! He wanted to play! He wanted to pounce! He wanted to chase butterflies! But there were no butterflies to chase, and no friends to pounce with. He kicked a fallen leaf with his paw, sending it skittering across the ground. It landed with a soft thud, and the sound seemed to amplify in the stillness. He sighed, a little puff of warm air. He was all alone.

Suddenly, a low, rumbling sound vibrated through the air. It wasn’t a scary sound, not like the thunder during a storm. It was a deep, warm, comforting sound, like the purr of a giant kitten. Tiggy’s ears perked up. He knew that sound! It was a sound that made his own little tummy rumble with happiness, a sound that meant safety and warmth and home. He spun around, his tail giving a hopeful little flick.
