The laughter died in my throat, choked by a sudden, icy dread. It wasn't the manufactured spookiness of a haunted house; this was raw, primal fear clawing at my insides. Jamie’s hand, usually so steady, trembled against mine. Sam, the ever-present jokester, was silent, his eyes wide and unblinking, fixed on the same ghastly tableau that had frozen us in place.
We stood at the edge of what looked like a concession stand, but instead of popcorn and cotton candy, there were rows of… things. Glass jars, each filled with a murky liquid, and suspended within them were shapes that made my stomach churn. Limbs, maybe? Organs? I couldn't quite bring myself to focus, the revulsion too strong. And the workers. They weren't wearing costumes anymore. Their faces were gaunt, their movements jerky, unnatural. One of them, a woman with vacant eyes and a stained apron, was methodically wiping down a counter with a rag that looked suspiciously like… no, I couldn’t go there.
"What… what is this place?" Sam whispered, his voice a fragile thread.
