The air in the ancient library, usually thick with the comforting scent of aged parchment and dried ink, felt suddenly heavy, suffocating. Kaelen, his brow furrowed in concentration, traced the faded script on a brittle scroll. Lyra sat opposite him, her gaze steady, her fingers occasionally brushing the cool metal of the locket hidden beneath her tunic. Lord Valerius, his usual placid smile firmly in place, stood by the large arched window, gazing out at the crumbling ramparts of the forgotten kingdom.

"The lore speaks of a nexus, a point where the very essence of the land converges," Kaelen murmured, his voice barely a whisper. "If we can locate it, perhaps we can understand the source of the power that flows through me." He looked up, his eyes bright with a scholar’s curiosity, and met Lyra’s gaze. "You believe it’s connected to the kingdom’s fall, don't you?"

Lyra inclined her head. "All ancient powers have their roots in the past, Kaelen. And the fall of Eldoria was no natural disaster. It was a wound, inflicted by forces that sought to extinguish its light."
