Elara, with Flicker perched on her shoulder, felt a shift in the air, a subtle change that tugged at her heart. It wasn't the oppressive silence of the forest, but a different kind of quiet, one that seemed to have swallowed something precious.

Ahead, nestled in a gentle dip of the land, lay what looked like the ruins of a village, or perhaps a gathering place. Stone circles, now tumbled and overgrown, hinted at past celebrations. A weathered wooden stage, its planks warped and splintered, stood forlornly in the center. But it was the absence of sound that struck Elara most. There was no rustle of leaves in the breeze, no chirping of unseen birds, not even the distant hum of insects. It was a silence that felt like a held breath, waiting for something that would never come.

"This was a place of great joy, wasn't it, Flicker?" Elara whispered, her voice barely disturbing the stillness.
