The vast, echoing chamber pulsed with a silence that was not empty, but full of a sorrow so profound it seemed to press against Elara’s very bones. Before her, a formless mass of swirling grey coalesced and dispersed like mist caught in a phantom wind. This was the source, the heart of the encroaching fog, the Grey Being. It was not a monster of snapping teeth and burning eyes, but a being woven from loneliness, a tapestry of forgotten tears.

Elara’s initial instinct, honed by the fading bravery of Lumina, was to recoil, to prepare for a fight. But as she looked, truly looked, at the sorrow emanating from the Grey Being, her own heart ached. It was a pain she recognized, a shadow of the fear she had felt when her village began to dim, when the familiar warmth of connection turned cold.

“You are so sad,” Elara whispered, her voice barely a ripple in the oppressive stillness. She didn't expect an answer. The Grey Being didn't have a mouth to speak, no eyes to meet hers. Yet, as her words hung in the air, the swirling grey seemed to hesitate, its chaotic dance faltering.
