Following the strongest currents of the grey fog, Elara and Flicker arrive at a desolate, windswept place. Here, they sense an immense, ancient presence, the heart of the fog, radiating profound loneliness.
The wind howled like a lost spirit around Elara, whipping her hair across her face and tugging at her cloak. Flicker, a small bundle of shifting colors, chirped nervously from her shoulder, his tiny claws digging into the worn fabric. They had followed the strongest currents of the grey fog, a path that led them away from the familiar, even from the strange, hushed whispers of the Whispering Caves. Now, they stood on a desolate, windswept plateau, where the very air seemed to sigh with a sorrow so deep it vibrated in Elara’s bones.
This was it. The heart of the fog. The source.
It wasn't a place that had a name, not one Elara knew, nor one that Elder Maeve had ever spoken of. It was simply a vast emptiness, a canvas painted in shades of grey that stretched to a horizon lost in the perpetual twilight of the fog. Jagged rocks, like broken teeth, jutted from the barren ground, their surfaces smooth and worn by endless gales. There were no trees, no plants, not even the hardy mosses that clung to the rocks back home. It was a landscape stripped bare of life, of joy, of everything that made the world sing.
