Eleanor leaves the conference room but doesn't leave the building. She watches from the lobby as the team disperses, then observes Alex and Evelyn's quiet reunion. Mack catches her lingering, and their conversation reveals Eleanor's hidden stake in Alex's success. She leaves with a warning that lingers in the air.
The door clicked shut behind Eleanor, and she stood in the hallway, her hand still on the handle. She didn't move. The wood was cool under her palm, the grain familiar from a hundred other doors in a hundred other buildings.
She let herself breathe.
The conference room was quiet now. She could feel it through the door, the weight of Alex standing alone in there, the card she'd given him warm in his pocket. She'd done what she came to do. She should leave.
