The air in the enchanted garden hummed with a stillness that Elara had never felt before, a silence that wasn’t empty but full of ancient secrets. Elder Willow’s branches, draped like a wise old woman’s shawl, rustled gently, though no breeze stirred. Elara, her heart a small bird fluttering against her ribs, followed the Elder’s gnarled root-path deeper into the garden’s heart. The flowers here were unlike any she had ever seen, their petals shimmering with an inner light, their scents weaving a symphony of forgotten perfumes. But even in this place of magic, a subtle shadow seemed to cling to the edges of her vision, a faint echo of the wilting she had left behind in her own cottage.
“You feel it, do you not, child?” Elder Willow’s voice was a deep, resonant murmur, like the earth breathing. “The sorrow that clings. It is the shadow of a wound that has never truly healed.”
Elara nodded, her gaze sweeping over a patch of lilies whose white petals were tinged with an almost imperceptible grey. “It’s like… like a whisper of the blight, but softer. More like a memory.”
