Valerius and Seraphina, with Mihail's reluctant aid, forge a desperate pact. They must combine their ancient strengths and newfound understanding to confront the encroaching darkness.
The air in the library was thick with the scent of aging parchment and dust motes danced in the solitary shaft of moonlight that pierced the gloom. Mihail, hunched over a tome bound in what felt disturbingly like human skin, his brow furrowed in concentration, finally looked up. His eyes, the color of storm clouds, met mine, and in them, I saw a reflection of the gnawing unease that had settled in my own soul. Centuries of slumber had not prepared us for this peculiar brand of dread, a dread born not of the hunt, but of the unknown.
"It is as the scrolls foretold," he murmured, his voice a dry rustle. He gestured with a long, skeletal finger towards a passage illuminated by the faint glow of a nearby candle. "The celestial alignment, the thinning of the veil… it is all converging."
Seraphina, ever the steady anchor in my turbulent existence, stood beside me, her hand a cool, reassuring weight on my arm. Her gaze, usually so full of vibrant fire, was now clouded with a similar apprehension. She had felt it too, the tremor beneath the surface of reality, the subtle shift that promised not peace, but a storm.
