A Choice of Blood
Faced with an impossible choice, Valerius and Seraphina must decide whether to unleash their full, potentially destructive, power to save themselves and their bloodline.
The air in the grand library was thick with the scent of aged parchment and the metallic tang of unspoken fear. Moonlight, a spectral caress, spilled through the towering gothic windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in a silent ballet. Seraphina traced the spine of a leather-bound tome, her fingers cool against the worn material. The weight of the prophecy pressed down on her, a palpable thing, a shadow cast by an unseen sun. It spoke of a rending, a tearing of the very fabric that held our world and theirs apart, and it spoke of us, of our blood, as the key.
"Valerius," I murmured, my voice a low thrum against the oppressive silence. He stood by the window, a silhouette against the celestial glow, his gaze fixed on the distant, indifferent stars. His posture, usually one of unwavering strength, seemed to carry a new, subtle weariness.
He turned, his eyes, pools of ancient sorrow and starlight, meeting mine. "The choice, my love, is a cruel one. To unleash what we are, to embrace the very essence we have sought to temper for centuries, or to fade into the encroaching night."
