We had been lured here, Seraphina and I, by a gilded invitation, a promise of understanding, a whisper of shared purpose. "A calculated risk, my love," I had murmured to Seraphina, my hand cool against the silken fabric of her gown, the same deep amethyst that mirrored the twilight sky. Her eyes, pools of midnight, had met mine, a flicker of apprehension dancing within their depths.

"And yet, Valerius," she had replied, her voice a low, resonant hum, "Mihail’s counsel has proven sound thus far. This collector, this ‘Silas Thorne,’ he speaks of an ancient lineage, of power that predates even our own slumber. He claims to have found a key, a way to decipher the fragmented verses that plague our waking hours."
