The chill that had settled into my bones, a familiar companion through the long centuries of slumber, began to recede, replaced by a gnawing discomfort. It was not the gentle thawing of a protracted sleep, but a violent wrenching, as if the very fabric of my being was being torn asunder. Around me, the velvet darkness of the coffin felt suffocating, a tomb that had been both sanctuary and prison. The air, once thick with the scent of dust and the faint, metallic tang of my own essence, now seemed alive, thrumming with a disquieting energy.

I felt Valerius stir beside me, a subtle shift in the stillness that spoke volumes. His presence, a constant anchor in the eternal night, was a balm, yet even his stoic composure seemed to vibrate with an uncharacteristic tension. The lid of my coffin, heavy with the weight of ages, groaned upwards, revealing a sliver of a world that was no longer ours. The moonlight, once a familiar silver caress, now spilled into the chamber in harsh, unfamiliar angles, painting the ancient stones with an alien luminescence.

Emerging from the confines of my resting place felt like shedding a skin of forgotten time. My limbs, stiff and unyielding, protested the movement, but a deeper, more urgent instinct propelled me. The castle, my home, my ancestral seat, was a cacophony of whispers and shadows. The very stones seemed to breathe, their silence no longer a testament to peace, but a held breath before a storm.
