William stood beside Ena, his hand instinctively finding hers, a gesture that had become as natural as breathing in this strange, eternal twilight. Her skin, usually cool and smooth, felt unnaturally chilled, a tremor running through her slender fingers.

Before them, a vortex of swirling darkness pulsed, a wound in the fabric of their reality. It was the source of the decay, the creeping oblivion that threatened to consume Ena’s world. A low, guttural growl emanated from its depths, a sound that scraped against William’s very soul. He had faced specters, navigated treacherous landscapes, and even bargained with ancient, forgotten beings, but this… this felt like the end of everything.

“It’s growing stronger, William,” Ena’s voice was a mere whisper, laced with a sorrow that echoed the desolation surrounding them. Her eyes, usually pools of starlight reflecting a quiet strength, were now clouded with a profound fear. The vibrant hues of her skin seemed to have faded, leaving her almost translucent.
