Chapter 6
Fists of Fury, Prayers of Hope
The air in Malachi’s apartment is thick with a palpable tension as 2:00 AM approaches. Father Vito stands ready, his rosary clutched tightly, his voice beginning the ancient rites of exorcism. Malachi watches, a mixture of terror and fragile hope warring within him. As the first incantations fill the room, Alexis materializes, her demonic form radiating raw power and fury. The apartment shakes, objects fly, and the very air crackles with unholy energy. Alexis unleashes her rage, a whirlwind of supernatural violence aimed squarely at Malachi, while Father Vito stands as a bulwark, his prayers a shield against her onslaught. The fate of Malachi's soul, and his very life, hangs precariously in the balance as divine intervention clashes with demonic vengeance.
The grandfather clock in the hall chimed with a sonorous, mournful tone, each beat echoing the frantic thrumming in Malachi’s chest. Eleven. He’d paced the length of his living room a hundred times, the worn carpet a testament to his escalating despair. Father Vito, a man whose weary eyes held a glint of practiced resolve, sat calmly in the armchair, his worn Bible open on his lap. The air, usually stale with the lingering scent of Malachi's failed attempts at apology and the faint metallic tang of blood, was now heavy with something else entirely – anticipation. A sacred, terrifying anticipation.
Malachi stopped by the window, peering out into the inky blackness of the city night. Each shadow seemed to writhe, each distant siren a harbinger of the inevitable. He’d tried everything. Pleading. Bargaining. Even weeping, a performance he’d never thought himself capable of. Alexis, however, was unmoved. Her visits were not born of emotion, but of a cold, cosmic equation. He had broken a promise, and the price was his peace, his body, and soon, he feared, his soul.
“She comes at precisely two,” Malachi rasped, his voice raw from disuse and fear. He hadn’t spoken this much in weeks, his usual smooth patter replaced by choked whispers and terrified exclamations. “Not a second before, not a second after. It’s like… like she’s programmed.”
