They had skirted the edges of Homancat enclaves, glimpsed the predatory gleam in the eyes of those who saw outsiders not as sentient beings, but as prey. Mackenzie’s heightened awareness was their shield, Rousey’s stoic guidance their map.

“He’s restless,” Rousey murmured, her voice a low growl that barely disturbed the quiet. Her gaze was fixed on Mackenzie’s retreating form, a subtle furrow in her brow.
