Beside her, Mackenzie shifted, his lithe form coiled with an ever-present tension, his senses, sharp as any predator’s, undoubtedly picking up on the monumental shift occurring within the human. Even from this distance, he could feel the tremor of her resolve.
“The path home… it is still there,” Mackenzie said, his voice a low rumble, laced with the same pragmatism that had guided them thus far. “The portal, as we understand it, remains open, a whisper on the wind. But the world that awaits you… it is not the world you left.”
