Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Elias and the others fall into the first room, where the oldest one waits. They must navigate a space that remembers them before it's too late.
The fall lasted longer than it should have. Elias’s stomach dropped, then kept dropping, as if the ground kept moving away. The fragment burned in his hand, pulsing in time with his heartbeat. Around him, shapes flickered—Lena’s outstretched arm, Lily’s hair whipping upward, Dee Jay’s shout swallowed by silence.
Then impact. Not hard. Like landing on something that caught them, softened, held.
Elias opened his eyes. They were standing in a room—if you could call it that. The walls were made of the same dark stone as the fragment, but translucent, pulsing with a faint inner light. The floor was smooth, cool, and curved slightly upward at the edges, like the inside of a bowl. There were no doors. No windows. Just the six of them, breathing too loud in the stillness.
