The group reaches the heart of the membrane and confronts the one who shattered the boundary. Elias must decide how to use the stone—not as a weapon, but as a key to heal the fracture. The heart was close now. Close enough that the white light spilled over them like rain, warm and thick. Elias could feel it in his bones, a hum that vibrated through the stone in his hand.
The figure waited at the center. A man, tall and thin, his coat hanging loose as if the membrane itself didn't know how to hold him. His eyes were pale—almost white—and when he smiled, it didn't reach them.
"Elias Thorne," he said. His voice was soft, layered, like two people speaking at once. "You brought it right to me. How thoughtful."
