A vast, frozen river blocks their path. The ice groans ominously, and the pups' strength is tested as they work together with Corvus to find a safe crossing.
The wind, which had been their guide and confidante for so long, now seemed to whisper tales of a formidable barrier. Before them lay a river, not flowing and shimmering as it had in warmer months, but a vast, frozen expanse, its surface a mosaic of crackling blues and whites. It stretched as far as Corvus could see, a silent, formidable wall between them and the promise of the hidden valley. The air above the ice shimmered with a frigid intensity, and the pups, usually so boisterous, fell silent, their breath pluming in white clouds.
Luna, ever the first to explore, padded cautiously to the edge. She sniffed the ice, her tail giving a hesitant twitch. "It looks… hard," she murmured, her voice barely audible above the sighing wind.
Ragnar nudged her gently with his nose, his gaze fixed on the seemingly endless ice. "Hard, and dangerous," he rumbled, his protective instincts flaring. He remembered the stories of wolves who had been caught in thin ice, their cries swallowed by the frozen silence.
