Chapter 5
The Treacherous Peaks
Their journey begins, leading them into the daunting, snow-covered mountains. The pups' agility and Corvus's aerial view help them navigate treacherous paths and avoid dangerous drops.
The biting wind whipped at Corvus’s glossy black feathers, a stark contrast to the usual gentle nudges he felt from its breath. This was a gale, a furious roar that tore through the skeletal branches of the pines and scoured the already barren land. Below, the three wolf pups, Luna, Ragnar, and Willow, huddled together, their grey fur dusted with a fresh layer of snow. Their small, panting breaths plumed in the frigid air, a silent testament to the severity of the winter’s grip. Corvus, perched on a snow-laden branch, felt a familiar ache of responsibility tighten in his chest. He was their guide, their hope, and the thought of failing them was a chill far colder than the wind.
“Are you sure about this, Corvus?” Luna’s voice, though small, carried a spark of her usual courage. She nudged Ragnar with her nose, her tail giving a tentative thump against the snow.
Corvus tilted his head, listening to the wind’s lament. It spoke of vast, empty spaces, of treacherous ice, and of a path that wound upwards, towards the forbidding peaks that clawed at the bruised sky. “The wind says this is the way,” he croaked, his voice raspy with the cold. “It speaks of a passage, hidden by the snow, that leads through the mountains.”
