Chapter 19
Leading the Way
Corvus guides his starving pack, and the wolf pups lead their family, towards the hidden valley. The two groups travel together, a testament to their newfound alliance.
The wind, usually a playful companion, now felt like a cold, biting adversary. Corvus, perched on a snow-laden pine, ruffled his feathers against the relentless gale. Below him, his raven pack huddled, their sleek black forms dulled by hunger and despair. Their once vibrant squawks had dwindled to mournful croaks, each sound a testament to the dwindling stores of food. He had brought them the news of the hidden valley, a whisper of hope carried on the very wind he now battled. But hope was a fragile thing when bellies ached with emptiness.
He sent a call, a sharp, clear cry that cut through the wind’s howl. A few heads lifted, eyes blinking slowly. He launched himself from the branch, his wings beating with a newfound urgency. He had to lead them. He had to show them the way, not just to the valley, but to survival. As he circled back, he saw them beginning to stir, a hesitant, shuffling movement spreading through the flock.
Meanwhile, a different kind of stir was happening a short distance away. Luna, Ragnar, and Willow, their fur thick and their spirits high despite the biting cold, nudged their mother. Their father stood sentinel, his gaze sweeping the snow-covered landscape, his ears twitching at every rustle. The pups had spoken of Corvus, of his strange gift, and of the promise of a warmer place. Their mother, weary from days of fruitless hunting, listened with a mixture of skepticism and desperate hope.
