The wind howled, a mournful sound that whipped snow into stinging flurries. Corvus shivered, not just from the biting cold, but from the gnawing emptiness in his belly. Beside him, Luna, Ragnar, and Willow huddled close, their fur dusted with white, their breaths misting in the frigid air. The fox’s trick had cost them precious time, and now, with darkness gathering like a shroud, they were exposed and weary.

“We need shelter,” Ragnar grumbled, his voice rough with exhaustion. He nudged Willow gently with his nose, a silent question in his amber eyes.

Corvus scanned the jagged rock face. The wind, usually his confidant, was a chaotic roar now, its whispers lost in the tempest. But then, a faint, almost imperceptible eddy of air brushed against his cheek, carrying a scent of damp earth and something ancient. “This way!” he croaked, flapping his wings to gain a little height. “I feel… something.”
