Chapter 20
The Witchy Pup's Wisdom
Scotty understands that magic isn't always about perfection, but about joy and friendship. He and his cauldron are ready for more adventures.
Scotty sat back on his haunches, a wide, goofy grin stretching across his muzzle. Sparky, now back to his normal, non-levitating self, was happily munching on the last of the shimmering, berry-infused cloud cream. It wasn't exactly the perfectly frosted vanilla cake Scotty had envisioned when he’d first dreamed of baking for his best friend. It was… well, it was a lot of things. It was a bit bouncy, it tasted faintly of sunshine and giggles, and it had left Sparky with a temporary ability to hum musical notes that smelled like strawberries. But Sparky loved it. He’d licked the bowl clean, wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled, and then nudged Scotty’s hand with his wet nose, a clear sign of utmost puppy approval.
Scotty looked at the cauldron. It sat on the hearth, looking remarkably innocent now, the last wisps of rainbow steam having long since dissipated. It hadn't been trying to ruin his cake. It had been trying to… play? To show him something else? He’d spent so much time trying to force the cauldron into making *his* idea of a cake, *his* idea of magic. He’d thrown in spells for neatness, for perfect circles, for predictable flavors. He’d chanted incantations for uniformity. And the cauldron had just chuckled, in its own bubbling way, and produced flying flour, floating puppies, and giggling gummy gears.
He remembered the moment he’d finally stopped fighting. It was when Sparky had been zooming around the living room, a tiny whirlwind of magically enhanced energy, chasing a rogue rainbow ribbon that had sprouted from the cauldron’s lip. Scotty had been frantically trying to catch Sparky, shouting “Stop! You’re going too fast!” and “How do I turn this off?” But Sparky, with his eyes twinkling and his paws a blur, had just yipped with delight. He hadn’t been scared or confused. He’d been having the time of his life. And Scotty, watching his best friend’s pure, unadulterated joy, had felt a strange shift within him.
