The Guardian's presence looms, a silent threat to our fragile connection. Elias, unaware of the full danger, continues his quest. I must decide if his love is worth defying the cosmic order, and if we can find a way to exist, together, within the river of time.
The air in my tower, usually a stagnant pool of centuries, began to shift. It was a subtle tremor at first, like the distant rumble of an earthquake, or perhaps the sigh of a world awakening from a deep slumber. Elias, perched on his stool, hunched over a brittle manuscript, felt it too. His head lifted, his brow furrowed, and his eyes, so bright and alive, scanned the dusty corners of my sanctuary.
“Do you feel that?” he asked, his voice a low murmur that seemed to vibrate with the same unease that prickled my skin.
I nodded, my gaze fixed on the swirling dust motes dancing in the slivers of light that pierced the gloom. “The balance is disturbed,” I replied, my voice thinner than usual, a mere whisper against the rising tide of an unseen force. The magic within me, usually a steady hum, now felt like a frantic bird trapped in a cage, its wings beating against the bars. It was the Guardian. Its awareness had been piqued. Elias, in his earnest pursuit of knowledge, had stirred more than just forgotten lore. He had stirred the very fabric of existence.
