Chapter 8
Isis's Lonely Throne
We glimpse Isis in her celestial domain. Her power is vast, but her solitude is palpable. She observes Khepri with a growing sense of longing, finding solace in the innocent magic Khepri wields.
The heavens shimmered, not with the fiery brilliance of Ra’s reign, but with a softer, more opalescent light. It was a light that seemed to breathe, to pulse with a gentle, unseen rhythm. High above the world Khepri knew, on a throne woven from starlight and silken clouds, sat Isis. Her form was fluid, shifting like mist, her eyes the deep, unfathomable blue of the twilight sky. Around her, the cosmos hummed a quiet, melancholic tune, a melody of immense power and profound loneliness.
She watched. She always watched. Her gaze, a gentle caress, settled upon the vibrant tapestry of the land below. She saw the sunbeams, no longer harsh but dappled and kind, filter through the papyrus reeds. She saw the Nile, a ribbon of liquid sapphire, winding its way through fields of emerald green, where children, like Khepri, chased iridescent scarab beetles. And she saw Khepri, with the humming amulet nestled in their small hands, a beacon of innocent wonder in a world that had grown still and silent under her ascendant reign.
A sigh, like the rustle of desert winds, escaped Isis. Her dominion was absolute. The whispered name, a secret she herself still felt the tremor of, had indeed shattered Ra’s might. The celestial clockwork, once driven by his fiery pronouncements, now obeyed her subtler commands. Yet, this vastness, this unassailable power, felt hollow. The silence of the heavens was a vast, echoing chamber, and her own voice, though capable of shaping stars, felt trapped within it.
