Khepri seeks answers from a wise old scribe. The scribe reveals the amulet holds a forgotten word, a whispered name that shattered Ra's might and elevated Isis to her current, solitary reign.
The air in the scribe’s chamber was thick with the scent of papyrus and sun-baked clay, a comforting aroma that always made Khepri’s nose tickle. Sunlight, diffused through intricately carved alabaster windows, painted shifting patterns on the floor, like golden sand dancing. The scribe, a man whose wrinkles seemed to hold the stories of a thousand years, sat cross-legged before a low table, his fingers stained with ink. His eyes, kind and knowing, met Khepri’s as the child entered, the humming amulet nestled safely in a pouch tied around their neck.
“Ah, Khepri,” the scribe’s voice was a low rumble, like the gentle lapping of the Nile against the riverbank. “I felt your approach. The old magic stirs, doesn’t it?”
Khepri nodded, their heart thumping a little faster. The amulet pulsed against their chest, a warm, insistent beat. “It hums, honored Scribe. And it whispers. It speaks of… a name. A name that changed everything.”
