The Unseen Force

The air in Detective Morales’s office was thick with the stale scent of coffee and unspoken anxieties. Dust motes danced in the weak sunlight slanting through the grimy window, illuminating the growing disarray of case files scattered across his desk. Sofía sat opposite him, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, her gaze fixed on the worn linoleum floor. The previous night’s encounter, the chilling clarity of the whispers now calling her name, had left her raw and exposed.

“You’re saying,” Morales began, his voice a low rumble of skepticism, “that this killer… isn’t a person?” He rubbed his temples, a gesture that had become increasingly frequent since Sofía had begun sharing her experiences.

“Not in the way we understand it,” Sofía replied, her voice trembling slightly. “Think about it, Detective. The disappearances. The way they’re found. It’s too… precise. Too impossible. No one sees anything. No one hears anything, except those of us who hear the whispers.”
