Detective Morales ran a hand over his tired eyes, the fluorescent lights of the precinct humming a low, insistent drone that did little to soothe the gnawing unease in his gut. Three weeks. Three weeks since the first body had been found, and Valle Gris, a town usually as quiet as a forgotten graveyard, was now a hive of hushed, fearful whispers. The official line was homicide, plain and simple. But the details… the details were a tangled mess of contradictions and impossibilities that defied every ounce of his experience.
