The last tendrils of the blight recoiled, shriveling like burnt lace as Elara’s magic sang its final, triumphant note. The artifact pulsed once more, its light no longer a sickly, bruised violet but a soft, pearlescent white, like the first hint of dawn on a winter’s morn. The air, thick with the stench of decay moments before, now smelled of rain-kissed earth and pine needles, a scent so pure it made Elara’s chest ache with relief.

She sank to her knees, her blue cloak pooling around her like a twilight sky. The mystical circlet on her brow, which had blazed with an almost unbearable intensity, now settled into a gentle, steady hum against her skin. The shadowy creatures that had swarmed the forgotten ruin had dissolved into wisps of smoke, their malevolent whispers silenced forever. The ancient traps, sprung and bypassed, lay dormant, their purpose served.

Above, through the fractured ceiling of the ruin, Elara could see a sliver of Eldoria’s canopy. A single ray of sunlight, no longer dimmed by the encroaching darkness, pierced the gloom and landed squarely on her face, warm and reassuring. It felt like a blessing, a confirmation that the woods had forgiven its temporary lapse into despair.
