Elara stood before the artifact, her heart a frantic bird against her ribs, yet her gaze was steady, fixed on the pulsing heart of the blight. It was an obsidian shard, jagged and cruel, embedded in the crumbling altar, leeching the very color from the ancient stone around it. Tendrils of shadow, like grasping fingers of smoke, writhed from its surface, reaching, always reaching, for the fading light of Eldoria.

Her circlet, usually a gentle beacon, now blazed with an insistent, ethereal fire. It pulsed in time with the desperate rhythm of the woods, a shared heartbeat of defiance. Elara raised her hands, palms open, and closed her eyes. She didn't need to see the tendrils; she felt them, a cold, suffocating pressure against the warmth of her spirit. The Whispering Woods were not just a place to her; they were a part of her, and their pain was a physical ache. She could feel the silent screams of the wilting ferns, the choked gasps of the ancient oaks, the desperate flight of the songbirds who no longer found solace in their branches.

“You will not take them,” she whispered, her voice barely a breath against the oppressive gloom. “You will not silence their song.”
