Chapter 11
The Circlet's Glow
Her mystical circlet begins to hum with power, resonating with the artifact's energy. It glows brightly, a beacon of Elara's own ancient magic, ready to confront the corruption.
The air within the ruin was thick, not with the earthy scent of moss and decay Elara knew so well, but with a cloying, metallic tang that prickled her nose. Shadows, deeper and more substantial than any cast by the stunted, dying trees outside, writhed in the corners of her vision. They coiled and uncoiled like sluggish serpents, their presence a chilling whisper against her skin. Elara clutched the smooth, cool wood of her staff, its familiar weight a small comfort in this alien place. Her boots crunched on grit and fragments of what might have once been carved stone, each sound an intrusion into the oppressive silence.
She had followed the faintest tremors of distress, the muted cries of the ancient trees that only she could hear, deep into the heart of Eldoria, to this place where sunlight dared not tread. Resting upon the dark stone was an object that pulsed with a sickly, violet light. It was an artifact, ancient beyond imagining, its surface etched with swirling patterns that seemed to shift and writhe as she watched. But it was not the artifact itself that held her gaze, but the corruption that clung to it like a shroud. It pulsed with the same malevolent energy that had been slowly strangling her beloved woods, a tangible wave of despair that washed over her, threatening to extinguish the fragile flame of hope within her heart.
