The sound of Barnaby the badger’s booming belly laugh, a noise so utterly alien to the Whispering Woods it felt like a thunderclap made of jelly, echoed through the newfound merriment. It bounced off the transformed trees, now adorned with streamers of moonlight and leaves that shimmered with a thousand colors Lily had never imagined. The air, once thick with a palpable seriousness, now fizzed with an effervescent joy. Lily, still a little dizzy from the sheer volume of happy chaos, watched as Barnaby, his normally stern snout twitching with amusement, wiped a tear from his eye with a paw that was surprisingly dainty. He looked less like a grumpy guardian and more like a portly grandpa who’d just heard the funniest joke in the universe.
And then, Lily noticed them. The Glimmer Sprites. They had been flitting about, their usual shy, almost hesitant movements now infused with a spark of something new. Their delicate, shimmering forms, which had previously glowed with a soft, mournful luminescence, were now flickering with an almost electric vibrancy. They clustered together near a patch of mushrooms that had, just moments before, been stubbornly refusing to grow in any direction but downwards, and were now reaching for the sky like tiny, eager fingers.
