The afternoon sun, a gentle kiss on her weathered cheek, painted the room in hues of honey and rose. Elara lay nestled amongst pillows, her breathing soft as a butterfly’s wings. The air, usually alive with the rustle of leaves or the distant murmur of the village, was hushed, holding its breath in reverence. Her gaze, though softened by the years, still held a spark, a quiet knowing that had always been her hallmark. Beside her, on the small bedside table, lay the necklace. Its wooden beads, polished smooth by generations of touch, seemed to absorb the very light, glowing with an inner warmth.

Her granddaughter, a bright-eyed child named Anya, sat by her side, her small hand clasped around Elara’s frail fingers. Anya’s own necklace, a miniature replica of Elara’s, rested against her chest, its tiny beads a promise of futures yet to unfold. Elara squeezed Anya’s hand, a smile crinkling the corners of her eyes. “You feel it too, don’t you, my little sprout?” she whispered, her voice a melody of fading autumn leaves.

Anya nodded, her gaze flicking from Elara’s face to the necklace. “It feels… warm, Grandma. Like a hug.”
