The musty scent of aged paper and dried ink clung to Silas Abernathy’s small study, a familiar comfort to Elara. He’d invited her for tea, a gesture that felt both cordial and… investigative. He’d been unusually quiet since their last meeting, his eyes holding a flicker of discovery that mirrored the unease churning in her stomach. She clutched her teacup, the porcelain cool against her trembling fingers.

“You found something, didn’t you?” she ventured, her voice barely a whisper.

Silas set his own cup down with a soft clink. He didn’t meet her gaze immediately, instead gesturing towards a stack of brittle documents spread across his desk. “The Willow,” he began, his voice low and resonating with gravity. “It has seen much, Elara. More than I, or anyone in Havenwood, had ever imagined.”
