The air grew thick with the scent of damp earth and something wild, something ancient and untamed. Sunlight, once a cheerful companion, now struggled to pierce the dense canopy overhead, casting long, eerie shadows that danced like specters. Elara, her heart thrumming a frantic rhythm against her ribs, clutched the worn leather of her satchel, her eyes scanning the tangled undergrowth. Beside her, Kai moved with a silent grace, his hand never far from the sturdy knife sheathed at his hip.
