The air in the grove still hummed with a quiet energy, a gentle lullaby sung by the rustling leaves and the soft murmur of unseen streams. Elara sat on a moss-covered stone, tracing the intricate patterns of a fern with her fingertip. Beside her, Kai meticulously sharpened a fallen branch into a makeshift spear, his movements economical and precise. The silence between them was no longer an awkward void, but a comfortable tapestry woven with shared experience.

“It’s hard to believe,” Elara began, her voice barely disturbing the stillness, “that just days ago, this was all a story. A whisper on a dusty map.”

Kai grunted, his eyes fixed on the wood in his hands. “Stories are often just that. Until you have to live them.” He looked up then, his gaze meeting Elara’s. There was a new softness in his eyes, a thawing of the perpetual wariness that had once been his constant companion. “You were right, though. About the grove.”
