He remembered the gnawing emptiness, the constant vigilance that had been his companions for years, the phantom weight of his past mistake pressing down on his shoulders. Here, amidst the ancient magic of the grove, that weight felt a little less crushing.

“Look, Kai!” Elara’s voice, bright as a sunbeam, broke through his reverie. She held up a small, iridescent feather, shimmering with hues of sapphire and emerald. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. Do you think it’s from a bird that only lives here?”
