Helene scrambled up the crumbling embankment, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. Beside her, Orion, his feathers ruffled with a surprising urgency, hooted softly. "Faster, Helene! The scent of his greed grows stronger with every passing moment."

The air thrummed with a nervous energy, a stark contrast to the eerie silence that had enveloped them after their daring escape from Silas Vane's hidden lair. Helene risked a glance over her shoulder. The dark forest they had just navigated seemed to exhale a cold breath, as if the trees themselves were holding their spectral breath, waiting. She could almost feel Vane's gaze, a palpable weight pressing down on her back. He was a shadow, yes, but a shadow with a purpose, and that purpose was to reclaim her and the tattered fragments of the Whispering Map.

"Where are we going, Orion?" Helene panted, her legs burning with the effort of the climb. The path, if it could be called that, was a chaotic jumble of moss-covered rocks and gnarled roots that clawed at her boots.
