The rough burlap of the sack was still a phantom itch against Helene’s skin, a lingering reminder of the suffocating darkness and the chilling grip of Professor Silas Vane. Now, bathed in the soft, dappled light filtering through the ancient canopy of Roma Land, she felt a tentative freedom bloom in her chest. Beside her, perched on a moss-covered branch with eyes like polished amber, sat Orion, the wise old owl. His silent presence was a comfort, a steady anchor in the swirling chaos of her recent ordeal.
“He is cunning, Helene,” Orion hooted, his voice a low, resonant murmur that seemed to weave itself into the rustling leaves. “Vane. His desire for the Whispering Map is a hungry beast, and he will not rest until he has it.”
Helene nodded, her gaze fixed on the worn, parchment-like object spread carefully across a smooth, flat stone. The Whispering Map. It lay before them, not a grand, ornate treasure, but a deceptively simple thing, etched with lines and symbols that seemed to shift and shimmer as she looked at them. Her fingers itched to trace them, to unlock their secrets, but Orion’s words held her back.
