A Punch of Courage
Mark, fueled by newfound bravery, confronts the Monster Sun. He lands a surprising punch, momentarily stunning the fiery antagonist and giving Scarlet a chance to regain her true form.
The air thrummed with a heat I’d never known, not the gentle warmth of a summer afternoon, but a searing, aggressive blaze that felt like it was trying to peel the very color from the world. The Monster Sun, a pulsating orb of malevolent orange, loomed above, its laughter a crackling, dry sound that scraped against my eardrums. It had swallowed Scarlet, my brave, red friend, and in her place was this… this sun-red mockery, all gurgles and distorted echoes of her voice. My own fear, a cold knot in my stomach, warred with a new, fierce anger. Denny, beside me, was a blur of frantic energy, his own vibrant hues dimmed by the oppressive glare.
“Goo goo goo!” the Scarlet-turned-sun-monster shrieked, its form wavering like heat haze. It was a grotesque parody, a mockery of the cheerful crayon I’d just met. The Monster Sun, the true architect of this nightmare, let out another rasping chuckle.
“Oh, the sweetness of melted hues!” it boomed, its voice like grinding stone. “Scarlet, my new little sunbeam. So much more… *useful* this way.”
