The morning light, a soft, butter-yellow spill, found me gazing out my window, the same window that had once framed a swirling, impossible portal. But now, it revealed a vista that stole my breath, a symphony of color painted across the familiar skyline of Vacaville. Gone were the muted grays and browns, replaced by houses that shimmered and sang with every hue imaginable. They weren't just painted; they seemed to *be* color, their walls a cascade of emerald greens, sapphire blues, ruby reds, and amethyst purples, all flowing into one another like a never-ending sunset. It was a sight that made my heart swell, a secret joy that had been tucked away for so long, now unfurling with the warmth of a thousand sunrises.

Thirty years. It felt like both a blink and an eternity since that day. Since the day I’d tumbled through a shimmering tear in reality, landing in a world that smelled of wax and wonder.
