Chapter 17
Dawn of a New Day
Mark wakes up to a bright, sunny morning. He looks out his window to see Vacaville transformed. The houses are now painted in vibrant rainbow colors, a testament to the Crayon Crew's enduring magic.
The morning light, a gentle caress on my eyelids, pulled me from the depths of sleep. It wasn’t the usual pale yellow of my bedroom window, but something brighter, more alive. A faint hum, like the distant echo of laughter, vibrated in the air. I blinked, the sleep still clinging to my lashes, and pushed myself up. The room looked… different. The walls seemed to shimmer with an inner light, and the familiar posters on my wall pulsed with a subtle, almost imperceptible glow. But it was the view from my window that truly stole my breath.
My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the sudden silence. Vacaville. My Vacaville. It was transformed. Gone were the muted greys and browns of the houses, the predictable blues and greens of the lawns. Instead, a riot of color exploded before me. Houses, that were once mundane boxes, now stood like jeweled castles, each one painted in a distinct, vibrant hue. A house of pure, dazzling sapphire sat next to one of emerald green, its roof a cascade of ruby red tiles. Further down the street, a row of homes bled into one another, a seamless gradient from sunny yellow to sunset orange, then to a deep, velvety violet. The sky itself seemed to be a deeper, more saturated blue, as if it too had been touched by the Crayon Crew’s magic.
A strange sensation, a mixture of wonder and a prickle of unease, washed over me. This was impossible. This was… beautiful. But how? Had I dreamt it all? The portal, Denny, Scarlet’s fiery fate, the monstrous sun, the battle? It felt so real, so vivid, yet the world outside my window was a stark, unbelievable contrast to the mundane reality I’d known before.
