The air in the Cloud Village hummed with a gentle, almost imperceptible energy, a stark contrast to the boisterous, sometimes frantic, attempts of the villagers below. Elara, having successfully navigated the Shifting Maze, now stood before the Queen of the Clouds, her heart thrumming a nervous but resolute rhythm against her ribs. The Queen, a vision of iridescent silks and eyes that held the depth of a twilight sky, regarded Elara with a serene, knowing gaze. Beside her, a cluster of Cloud Cats, their fur the colour of newly formed mist, twitched their ears, their silent presence a comforting anchor.
“You have shown wit and persistence, little one,” the Queen’s voice was like the chime of distant bells, soft yet carrying an undeniable authority. “The maze tested your mind. Now, we shall test your heart’s understanding.” She gestured with a slender, cloud-spun finger towards an opening in the ethereal architecture, a place where the light seemed to bend and splinter into a thousand hues. “Your third task is to collect the tear of a rainbow.”
Elara blinked, a small frown creasing her brow. “A tear? But… rainbows don’t cry, do they?”
