Chapter 14
A Wish for All
Elara makes her wish. It's not for herself, but for her village below, a selfless desire that echoes the Queen's own wisdom and the spirit of interconnectedness.
The air in the Queen’s throne room, if one could even call it a ‘room,’ was thick with a gentle, pearlescent light that seemed to emanate from the very fabric of existence. Elara stood before the Queen of the Clouds, her heart a hummingbird’s flutter against her ribs. The Queen, a vision of flowing silver and starlight, sat upon a throne carved from a single, impossibly large raindrop, her eyes holding the depth of ancient skies. Around her, the Cloud Cats, a kaleidoscope of fluffy forms, purred and stretched, their movements as fluid as mist. They had guided her, played with her, and, in their own silent way, cheered her on through each of the five tasks. Now, the final moment had arrived.
“You have proven yourself, little one,” the Queen’s voice was like the chime of distant bells, soft yet resonating. “You have faced the echoing song with courage, navigated the shifting maze with a keen mind, captured the ephemeral tear of a rainbow, woven the delicate threads of dreams, and, most importantly, found the heart of the storm without fear.” She gestured with a hand that trailed stardust. “Your final task was not one of action, but one of reflection. Now, speak your wish.”
Elara took a deep breath, the scent of ozone and petrichor filling her lungs. She thought of her village, nestled far below, a patchwork of thatched roofs and winding lanes. She thought of the hopeful faces that had watched the dreamers, and then the skeptics, and then, finally, her. She thought of the Elder’s furrowed brow and the quiet longing in his eyes when he spoke of the old ways. She thought of the laughter of the children, who, despite the failures, still pointed to the sky and whispered about the Cloud Village.
