The transition from the first circle to the second was less a movement and more a surrender. One moment, I was grappling with the spectral remnants of my past, the biting wind of guilt whipping around me, and the next, the ground simply ceased to exist. There was no falling, no plummeting sensation, just a sickening lurch as the very fabric of reality seemed to fold in on itself. The light of the first circle, already dim and anemic, winked out, leaving me adrift in a suffocating, inky blackness.

Then, the weight. It wasn't a physical pressure, not like being buried or crushed by stone. This was a soul-deep heaviness, an invisible shroud that wrapped around me, pressing down on my very will. It seeped into my bones, into my thoughts, whispering insidious truths I desperately tried to ignore. *You are nothing. Your struggles are pointless. Give up.*

This was the second circle, the Maw of Despair. The name itself was a promise, a grim foretelling of what awaited. The air, if it could be called air, was thick and cloying, carrying the faintest scent of stagnant water and something else… something like the scent of a forgotten dream, tinged with rot. My armor, which had felt like a second skin in the first circle, now felt like a leaden burden, each piece amplifying the crushing weight that settled upon my shoulders.
